Call Of Duty

Call Of Duty I

Walkthrough

At the hardened level. Of four choices, I started with the easy, then to the harder ones.

Copyright Notice. There is none. It is on the Internet and you will probably do whatever you feel like doing with it anyway regardless of what I say, so why bother. It is my philosophy to keep most everything on the Internet open and free, but that is just my opinion.

Start:

The training is not optional in the game, however I elected to not run through it in this walkthrough guide. You can figure it out on your own without any hints.

Here we have the first opening screen as the first American Mission starts. You have just been plunged into enemy territory in Normandy France.

Call Of Duty Screen 1

The objective is to now meet up with the sergeant. However, there is a small amount of territory to get through. Just above you next to the tree, taking a pitstop is a single German soldier. Take him out while his zipper is still down. How embarassing! Walk up to the path leadin up to the house quickly before he is finished and aim for the head.

You can look around a bit, but I have found nothing and the fences and walls keep you from going anywhere else.

Here he is, take your shot!

Call Of Duty Screen 2

Now go through the courtyard and turn to the left to head for the rendevous. Oopps, the sergeant is a bit hung up. Oh well, take his leg bag with the beacon in it and head on to the West South West towards the bunker in the distance. Two more Germans are in the bunker playing chess. Very cheap chess board, only has chips like a checkers game, but the picture of a pawn, knight and so on on the top.

You would think that with all the countries they have looted, one could have come up with a descent chess set.

Call Of Duty Screen 3
Oh well, messed up their chess game. I wonder whose move it was?

The official guide I have on CDROM said to throw a grenade in the bunker. I tried that several times and they always came out of the bunker to avoid the grenade and shot at you. So, I threw a grenade and then fired a round at the one that was headed out of the bunker as fast as I could. The problem is that when you throw a grenade, the game will not let you switch back to the rifle and fire immediately, there is a pause. Call Of Duty II changed that by allowing the middle mouse button to be the grenade throwing key, or any other key you wished to use. This is a much better improvement. Now I do not have to hunt the keyboard for a key.

Call Of Duty Screen 4

Now go out through the bunker or pillbox. I never saw any pills in one though. Go out through the other door and to the front of the bunker and press the "use" key in your game to set up the beacon for the planes to find in order to drop the airborne troops. You will notice two trucks passing by to the South, don't worry yet. Worry about the buildings to the West. The Germans will see the dropping parachutes and open up with an MG42, Yuck, your worst nightmare.

Call Of Duty Screen 5

What I did instead of following the official guide or other walkthroughs, I AM a bit of a rebel ain't I, I ran to the right side of the field towards the house. I waited on the corner for the windows to fly open and the MG42 to start firing. Then I threw a few hand grenades through the window. That calmed them down quite a bit thank you. Then your friends will come up and open the door for you. Bummer, another game where you cannot open a door, or jump over a short one foot fence.

Call Of Duty Screen 6

Now, use grenades when you need to. Yes, they are really great, but the game does not always furnish you with a plentiful resupply of them. The best time to use them a lot is when you already know a box of grenades is around. Then you can use them all you want to.

Make your way through this house. Watch out for the two goons upstairs behind the furniture blocking your way. Cowards. Hiding behind some furniture! Go out through the back door and out into this next courtyard. The next house to the left has more surprises. Yes, you guessed it, windows that fly open when you approach. This time your friends are there to help lay some fire down on them.

Call Of Duty Screen 7

I went upstairs, but did not find any neat new weapons or even grenades. Not a very well stocked German outpost is it? Go through this house and outside, watch out for a German hiding behind an open door. Never assume that an area is clear even though the friendly forces have past by. Remember, the Germans are really only there to shoot at you personally and care less about the others. I have had more than one German, or even several at one time, walk past six or more friendlies, not get injured or even shot at, only to kick me in the face when I was looking out for the flanks for the friends with me. Gee thanks guys.

Here is the exit point. Go down through the trench. There is even some health kits at the end. I call them bandaids.

Call Of Duty Screen 8

Now you come out of the trench into an open field. And what do we find? More windows banging open with MG42s in them. And to top it off, mortars are shelling the field we are in. Geesh. You think that the Germans do not want to be bothered?

Call Of Duty Screen 9

Here is the reason why we need to knock out those pesky little AA guns in town. This seems to be a recurring theme. In Brothers In Arms a plane with airborned troops crashes in the distance. Too bad they did not have B29s to carpet bomb the countryside before the airdrop.

Call Of Duty Screen 10

I found grenades in the upstairs of the first house on the right. Be careful, just in case one of the Germans is still up there. Not to mention any Germans that show up around the corner where the doorway is. Not to mention .... oh that's enough of not to mentions, let's not mention them. That's why we call them not to mention, so we don't mention them.

Now you can go two ways, around the back of the second house and crawl through the hole in the gate, shooting the Germans from the side in the prone position. Or, you can go around the left, or front side of the houses with the rest and risk being hit by the halftrack MG42 down the street. Oh, did I forget to mention the halftrack down the street? By the way, there is a Sdkfz Halftrack down the street with a mounted MG42. Shucks, you knew that, you can hear the rata tat tat of the gun yourself. Not to mention the health you might be losing standing in front of the houses, oh I did it again.

Call Of Duty Screen 11

Well, he is gone now. Okay, now the Captain orders you to take the left flank. Actually this is an advantage to you for a change. So many games make you the one to do all the hard stuff. In Call Of Duty II, it is "Vasili take out that tank with your sticky bombs!", "Vasili, blow open that door!", "Vasili take out that MG42!", "Vasili take out that halftrack!", "Vasili do this, Vasili do that!". In this case being on the left means firing at the Germans from a slight angle before you actually go in and flank them. The MG42 is at the far right side and so you can fire at him, but he cannot fire back. He is actually busy firing at your friends. This is a switch.

Call Of Duty Screen 12

Now, the MG42 is silent, along with many of his friends, but the Captain is still nagging me to go on the left flank. I was doing just fine from behind this wall, which IS on the left flank! AND it is safer.
Call Of Duty Screen 13

Now, inside the building you can see all my handywork. Firing from behind the wall was MUCH better. That guy on the floor was hiding behind that little area with the ladder up. He would have clocked me good, if I had done what the Captain said to do. Sorry Captain. Had to get them the best way possible and still live to tell about it.

Call Of Duty Screen 14

The next room is full of goodies. I call the small green box, bandaids, because it looks like a small first aid kit with bandaids in it. The larger health kit, I call Groceries because it looks like a bag of groceries. Duh? The little cans I call ointment. Each gives you a specific amount of health. Of course, the ointment, being small gives only a little. The bandaids I think give 25, the groceries give 50. A room with a closet full of groceries is a nice thing to have!

Call Of Duty Screen 15

Call Of Duty Screen 16

Now, at the back of this house is more trouble. Aren't you glad you found so many Groceries, Bandaids and Grenades? Well, you WILL in a minute. Just outside is more of them pesky Germans with the intolerable notion that they were here first! Imagine that!
